Kids doing science, not watching scientific parlor tricks.

Kids doing science 2Children learn by doing, not sitting and watching. Our main goal is to teach the scientific method. We model scientific reasoning and have kids do their own research. We attempt to use experiments that include items and stories with which children resonate. In our programs we use representational redescription to make the same point over and over again in as many different ways as possible. We reward the children with appropriate specific praise and small prizes. We provide resources for children, teachers and parents to explore further, should we be fortunate enough to spark intrinsic motivations for further study. Where possible we try to tie the program into real world events.

What does the school need to provide?

A physical space suitable for the program, children, teacher and at least one assistant. That's it.

What happens before the program?

The assistants and teachers will receive information before the program that they can use to prepare for the program. Information will be provided for parents telling them about the program and giving them experiments the children can try at home, information about the subject and ways to facilitate their children’s learning through questions and activities.

What happens after the program?

The teachers will have follow up material they can incorporate into their classroom if they choose. Parents will have support material to use at home if the child express further interest in the subject
